so I felt like painting some food....(steam, roast, butter, slice)

I've decided to start doing some paintings, mainly in acrylic, in response t local shows. Painting outside my usual subject matter, I think, will keep me on my toes.

Next month's theme is "Gatherings". I assume in reference t to the holidays, so I decided to paint some pictures of food on some 8x10 stretched canvases I had.

I took some process pictures of the green beans, for what it's worth.

I started out sketching in the purple plate and random strokes for a pile of green beans. I used two different reference photos for this - one of a pile of green beans on an orange plate, and one of a violet plate.

I filled in the back of the plate under the green beans with my violet (ultramarine + Permanent alizarin). I also started putting in some lighter values of the green (sap) to bring some of the green beans forward,

 Added some golden values in.

Eventually I started rounding out lighter values to show the lumpiness of the beans. It needs some cleaning up, but as of this posting this is where it is. I feel like the plate is pretty sloppy but my hand is a little shaky today so I may sit this out and come back to it tomorrow. I used a French curve on it but that wasn't enough. I didn't have to do that with the other paintings.
